Further additions were made during 1954 and 1956. The Golden Anniversary
of the church was celebrated on April 15, 1956.
When Cub Scouting was organized, the Methodist church sponsored
the organization. Kress 4-H club held meetings in the fellowship
hall. Prompted by Rev. Dyess, in 1972, the F.F.A. of Kress High
School constructed a steel frame to hold the great church bell,
and it was moved to a prominent place on the front lawn.
Four Methodist ministers are products of early training in this
church. They are Johnnie Williams, Clifford Trotter, Jim Drake,
and Jerry Campbell.

had been left sleeping on a palle1. In the early days, the boys
delighted in swapping saddles on horses, and exchanging wheels on
wagons and buggies. At a morning service after a revival, the pastor
was calling for love offerings. One man held up his hand and said,
"I'll give ten I" The pastor asked, "You'll give
ten dollars?" "No, ten cents" This was probably his

On July 17, 1977, a special service was held for the dedication
and unveiling of the historical marker, which was placed on the
front lawn near the bell.
