time they were meeting at the schoolhouse.

After many conferences, it was decided to erect a church building. A plot of land was donated by Brother and Sister Perry McCune, parents of the late Nellie Hale.

The building was erected in 1907 at what is now 3rd and Crosby St. As time passed, the congregation grew in number and the need for larger and more modern room was needed. Early in 1937, the members tore down the old frame building, and used much of the lumber to build an attractive and commodious brick veneer church.

Many capable preachers have served the local church. Brother George W. Cypert preached the first sermon in our first church building. J. T. Corder, member of the local church dedicated the new building.

Members still attending in 1977 who were some of

the first in the 1907 membership are Mrs. Frank Jennings (Ovie Vaughn), Mrs. C. L. White (Jennie Vaughn), and A. A. (Doc) Vaughn.

The church participated in much mission work and church growth. Evangelists from many areas of the United States held revival meetings for the benefit of the church and local Tulia citizens.
In 1967, the Tulia church was the organizer of a mission church being formed in Canyon, Texas, known as the Canyon Hills Church of Christ. In 1964 this church outgrew the mission status, and is now a self-sustaining group.

In May 1972, the church decided the time was appropriate to begin planning for a new building. Several lots were purchased. on 6th and Gaines St. for this purpose. In February 1977 work began on the new church building, being completed in October and services began there October 14, 1977.
