The group gathered for its first worship ser­vices in the First Christian Church for a short time. Then the Seventh Day Adventist made their church available. Services were held there until their church was completed.

On Sept. 21, 1947, the first officers of the newly formed Christ Lutheran Church were elected. The pastor was E. Vajdo, with President, John Berner, Vice-President, Elmer Bauer, Secretary, Walter Schulz, and Treasurer, Glen Osborn, being elected. At this meeting a committee composed of Glen Osborn, Otto Schuster, and Walter Schulz was appointed to investigate finances for a church building.

Now the members were ready to erect their place of worship. Lots were purchased at Fourth and Donley, and the members themselves built the new church. The building went rapidly and dedication of the church building was set for May 9, 1948.

The Rev. E. Beck came to serve the congregation August 15, 1948. There was great need for a parsonage. In October the house adjoining the church property was for sale and the congregation acquired this property.

In August 1951 we were appointed a pastor the Rev. Erick Knippa. The congregation continued to grow, by 1952 the membership numbered 97 souls.

Canyon Lutherans were looking for help to establish a church and asked Tulia Lutherans to consider a dual parish. The two congregations began working through Texas District in 1952, in January of 1953 it was agreed that they would share a pastor. This fellowship was to last 17 years.

Rev. Andrew A. Szegedin arrived in January 1958 and began an extensive Christian education program, every member visitation, and evangelism program.
