There were seventeen charter members of this congregation being: Mr. J. H. Stegall, Mr. M. L. Stegall, L. Stegall, W. W. Stegall, M. P. Browning, Fred Faulkner, Missouri Faulknew, Lewella Faulkner, Mrs. Stacy, Paul Bentley, N.A. Bentley, B. A. Rush, T. P. Rush, Sallie Rush, George Rush, Lelia Rush, and Mrs. E. Rush.

In 1897 the first church building was erected. This building was made possible by the hearty cooperation of every denomination. Gifts from fifty cents to fifty dollars were made, coming from as far away as Alabama. The entire community was canvassed by Mrs. J. W. Rush and Mrs. Sam Loftin. They traveled by horse and buggy from house to house, securing the sacrificial gifts. The gifts consisted of money, labor, and the hauling of lumber from Amarillo, Texas. This church was built at a cost of five hundred dollars. It served the three congregations a number of years. In 1904 a

steeple was added and a bell hung in the steeple pealing forth every Sunday to call the people to worship.

As the population grew the little one room house

would no longer accommodate the crowds. So about 191O the church was remodeled, widening and lengthening the building and replacing the
